The “Serve and Protect” performance is a culmination of “Direct Action Theatre's” ongoing series in which they work with riot police uniforms as the main visual and symbolic material.
SERVE AND PROTECT (SHOW)
They place the uniforms into absurd or uncommon situations and so playfully question the status quo of the police as an entity. They want to really “serve and protect” the people, nature, pleasure, beauty, and life itself. Based on D.A.T.'s public interventions, the performance is twisting the traditional power roles in society, tenderly channeling the energy of violence and protest and whimsically touching the themes of environmental sadness, war, uniformity, and crowd brutality.
You can expect to see the humanity that shines through the black gear. You might laugh, get angry and cry. The full experience of being on this planet.
